Dominica

Dominica has earned its reputation as "the nature island." Two-thirds is covered by dense tropical forests containing nearly 1,600 species of flowering plants. With so many of its natural resources intact, Dominica is a rarity among Caribbean nations.

It’s known as Waitukubuli to the Kalinago people, who are the original inhabitants of the island and the last surviving indigenous culture in the Caribbean.

Dominica is not known for its white-sand beaches, unlike its Caribbean neighbors. However, that is partly why the island has avoided becoming overdeveloped. Instead of shimmering beach resorts, you’ll find jungle hideaways, secret waterfalls, hot springs, and a 100-mile-long trail spanning across the entire length of Dominica.

We selected Dominica as a Hinoki destination for its lush (yet rugged) landscape, distinctive food & culture, and inspiring people.

In Dominica, we support the local conservation efforts of the Kalinago Council. The Kalinago Council functions as the official representative of the Kalinago people and was established to govern, manage and control the affairs of the Kalinago Territory on behalf of its residents.
