Laos

The landscape of Laos flows along the Mekong River, which flows through the heart of Southeast Asia.

Though the country was slower in opening to the outside world, Laos is gradually being discovered by travelers who have an appreciation for the simpler life.

Situated in northern Laos in Oudomxay Province, the small town of Muang La beckons travelers eager to experience its unspoiled natural beauty, rice paddies, and mountains. Rural life moves slowly here, offering plenty of uninterrupted time to enjoy hot springs near the Nam Pak river or visit the sacred Buddha in the Pha Chiao Sing Kham temple. Listen to the sounds of the jungle while trekking on small winding paths that meander through the forest, and learn more about the way of life of local communities that inhabit the region, including the Hmong, Ikhos, and Khmu peoples. Meet local farmers to see how they cultivate their land, fish, and hunt for small game, and don’t miss a river cruise from Muang Khua to Nong Khiaw down the Nam Ou River to witness the limestone formations rising from the water.

Northern Laos is dominated by mountains and is home to the charming former capital and UNESCO World Heritage City of Luang Prabang. Simply take a leisurely cycle around the riverside and pause to watch the Mekong float by. Laos food is some of the best in Southeast Asia, and even great croissants (and coffee) can be had thanks to the country’s French colonial past. With a blend of boutique eco-villas and small, independent design-forward hotels, experiencing Laos with us is an opportunity to experience the full spectrum of beauty: from the country’s verdant wilderness to its vibrant art aesthetic.

We’ve selected Laos for its romance, lush jungles, and local charm.
