Tasmania

The bays, the mountain peaks, and the crystal blue water is a balm for the eyes.

Tasmania is a rugged island off the coast of Australia that is known for its incredible, locally-grown food, modern art and culture in the capital city of Hobart, as well as its unspoiled beaches and trekking trails.

Scientific evidence shows that aboriginal people were present on Tasmania from 42,000 years ago. Their name for Tasmania was Trouwunna, and their history as well as their present-day influence on the island should be explored during your travels. As with every colonised land, there is a dark shadow of history regarding the treatment of indigenous peoples by the colonial settlers, but gaining some understanding of this context is an important part of any travel experience. Our local guide will offer some explanation of this history during your time in Tasmania.

The Freycinet National Park is the focus of a Hinoki retreat in Tasmania. The bays, the mountain peaks, and the crystal blue water is a balm for the eyes. Time will be spent along and in the water, as you’ll leisurely hike the coast (with plenty of time to stop for locally-sourced picnics and snacks) before retracing your steps by boat ride. Finally, for a bit of indulgence, we’ll invite you to explore the provenance of Tasmania’s local truffle and wine cottage industries.

We’ve selected Tasmania for its fresh air, ease of exploration, and community feel.
